Roza Bouchal, Ph.D.

ALWIS mentor

I was born in Algeria, where I had my entire education until I obtained my Master’s degree. I obtained my PhD in materials chemistry at Charles Gerhardt Institute of Montpellier in France. Then I joined the RS2E network as a postdoctoral fellow for one year and worked on water-in-salt electrolyte electrolytes for supercapacitors. Afterwards, I moved to Sweden as a postdoctoral researcher at Chalmers University of Technology and worked on electrolyte characterization and design for next-generation batteries.

Mainly my work was on understanding electrolyte composition in Li-S batteries using operando Raman spectroscopy. In 2021, I received a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action (MSCA) fellowship and joined the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces (Germany). My current research focuses on the development of safe and sustainable electrolytes for next-generation batteries (Na, Zn and Al batteries). My goal as a researcher is to build safer, performant and sustainable batteries.

Through this amazing network, I wish to transfer the knowledge I gained during these years to young students and at the same time, interact with other talented female scientists.
