Amel Zorai, Ph.D.

Mentor

I was born and raised in Setif, Algeria; I graduated from Ferhat Abbas University with a Master’s degree in Materials Engineering. I did my master’s internship at the Centre de Recherche Nucléaire d’ALGER, where I worked on rare-earth ions' luminescence. Now, I am a Ph.D. student at Béjaїa University. In collaboration with the Institut de Chimie Physique at Paris-Saclay University, I work on synthesizing and characterizing magnetic nanoparticles and their applications in the biomedical field (MRI contrast agents, hyperthermia, and drug delivery). Growing up, I was always fascinated by science. I discovered physics in middle school, and I fell madly in love with all things atomic and molecular. That was the time when I thought to myself, “Yes, physics. That’s what I want to do for the rest of my life”. I joined ALWIS to empower, encourage, and inspire women and girls to follow science and increase female representation in STEM, especially in Physics.
